I've been to Ireland twice, with my youngest child, to see my son: flew direct from ATL to Shannon where my son picked us up. Now my 2nd son is living in Europe also and I'm thinking about a trip this summer to see them both. Not experienced, I'm not sure how to do this. The direct flight to Ireland is important to me- not wanting to change planes with a 9 yr old in tow- but don't know how to book a multi-destination trip on the online services (all seem geared to a direct round trip). Also if we fly into Dublin, I would like to be able to do the train to my son's town instead of expecting him to pick us up. How would I get info on this? I'm just looking for information on how I can be a more independent traveler on this 3rd trip. Advice is welcome (and I do not want to drive in Ireland!). Thanks!

Dear Ireland and Beyond,
I'm JanetS, one of the bloggers on the AAA Community. I spent many years as a travel agent, so I'd be happy to provide you with some travel advice. Here's what I need to know from you before I proceed. Please email me the time of year you're planning to travel and the other city in Europe you'll be visiting. Send to: JStevens@aaasouth.com . This way you and I can discuss your trip needs off line. I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

Dear DKAAA,
The least expensive time to travel to Ireland is November - March. Because Ireland is surrounded by the Gulf Stream, winters are quite mild. In fact, there are palm trees on the grounds of the Shannon Airport.

Good to know the winters are mild because I'm headed there in March! I'm looking to find a castle hotel to stay in that won't break the bank; any suggestions for where to start my search? Thanks!

Dear Andrea,
I've done castle stays in Ireland twice now and I assure you that it's a travel experience you'll never forget. Depending on itinerary and budget, I would recommend a mixture of Manor House stays, hotels and a grand finale stay at Dromoland Castle. Dromoland is about 8km from the Shannon airport and is my favorite Irish Castle hotel. The staff are friendly and the dining room is superb. Traveling in March will allow you to take advantage of low season rates with both air and hotels.
We have a preferred partner relationship with C.I.E Tours International, which has a full offering of every accomodation type ( B&B, Manor House, Hotels and Castles). Your trip can be customized to meet you needs and budget. Let me know if you'd like me to recommend one of our travel counselors that specializes in Ireland.
